Doors are an entrance to our peace and security and an exit to the world at large. Every now and then the world wants to intrude on our peace, unwelcome guests such at strangers and criminals try to disrupt our peaceful lives. The standard doorknob lock is very weak protection from outside forces as it is very easy to manipulate. The deadbolt provides a good measure of protection against unwelcome and uninvited guests who wish to harm us or our property, our loved ones and sometimes our lives.
There are three major types of deadbolt locks available on the market. The cylinder deadbolt lock has a key cylinder and a knob, each on either side. Another type would be the double cylinder lock where both sides of the lock have a key cylinder. This type has no knob so the user will need a key to open both sides. The last type of lock is the key-less entry; this type is a deadbolt model and can only be broken into using two methods.
To open this key-less deadbolt requires the user to insert a tension wrench into the keyhole and turn the cylinder the same way you would turn if you were using a key. Upon reaching the normal unlocked position, the user will hear a click that will tell him that the deadbolt is open. Another technique for opening the key-less deadbolt is by using a special tool called a rake, it is inserted into the lock and pushed all the way back to the key cylinder, pulled out in a quick manner so that it hits all the pins, releasing the lock.
All of the equipment to pick a lock is available with the purchase of a locking tool kit. The basic kit contains the screwdriver, a lock pin and a tension wrench. The professional kit will have several sizes of lock pins and tension wrenches. It may also contain a pick gun which is an instrument that has the capacity to push several lock pins at the same time.
The master lock is considered the hardest of all locks to open; it offers a very high level of security. Its inventor Henry Soref came up with the idea of creating locks that have many layers of laminated steel. The master lock can be picked in the same way as the regular locks except it would require you to have the best of locksmith skills to do so.
