Locks in themselves are faultless when it comes to being sentries of our door entrances – so long as the locks can be opened by intruders, criminals and strangers, the locks will simply open and let them in. So you need to choose a door lock which can stop unwanted individuals in their attempts to gain entry to your home and office. A good lock can protect both you and your property well.
Your standard kind of door lock installed within a doorknob can be easily opened and cannot really protect you well. So do consider buying a deadbolt lock so that you can be relatively safe against burglars who know how to break open the standard door lock on the market.
You can buy at least one of the three kinds of deadbolt lock products out there. The first kind of deadbolt lock is called a single cylinder deadbolt lock. This one has a knob on one side and a key cylinder on the other side. You might also choose to buy instead a double cylinder lock as your preferred deadbolt lock – this one has a key cylinder on either side, and will have to be opened with a key (plus there are no knobs.) The final kind of deadbolt lock is dubbed a key-less deadbolt lock which can be unlocked in two ways.
You can open a door lock through lock picking, and this means using a reliable locking tool kit. The basic tools that your locking tool kit should have are a screwdriver (and/or perhaps a tension wrench) as well as that long thin metal tool called the lock pin. If your lock pin is missing, you can always use a hairpin for this task. A professional lock picking kit would use various kinds, shapes and sizes of tension wrenches; and lock pins that come in varying dimensions too. A pick gun is indispensable for providing vibration and will manipulate different lock pins simultaneously.
To open the key-less deadbolt lock, the user first inserts the tension wrench in the keyhole and turns the cylinder in a way similar to unlocking a standard lock with a key. The lock pin is inserted and lifted slowly upward. Upon reaching normal position, he will hear a click that will signify that the deadbolt lock is open. Racking is another technique of opening the key-less deadbolt lock. It has a lower level of accuracy compared to lock picking. A special instrument called a rake is inserted to the lock and pushed all the way to the back of the key cylinder. It is pulled out in a brisk manner to hit all pins on its way out. The cylinder is rotated with the use of a tension wrench.
The master lock is considered as one of the hardest locks to be opened. It provides a high level of security. The master lock was invented by Henry Soref in 1921, who thought of producing locks using several layers of laminated steel. The master lock has the same picking system as the other types of door locks but its production requires excellent locksmith skills.
More information on locks and lock picking techniques can be seen in books available in the market. NY Locksmiths are also a good source of locks’ information. There are also videos and CDs that provide good illustration.
