Throughout the history of man, homeowners have always worried about keeping their homes and personal property as safe as possible. This meant creating security locks that can bar intruders from gaining entry. One development in the creation of secure entry locks was to provide individual keys for each lock – but even this presented two crucial problems.
One was that the security component of keyed locks was quite easy to outmaneuver because you can always copy keys easily, while locks can always be picked open. The second vital problem results when keys are lost or fall into the wrong hands.
Over time, lock designers kept enhancing entry locks so that intruders could not easily gain unauthorized access. The newer security door locks had certain new features including multiple automatic deadbolts that can fasten deeper into the frame. These security door locks could be installed on doors at many different security points. It became harder to use a lock pick to open a security door lock, due to the additional pins and key faces built into these devices. Though such innovations did allow heightened security, the designers still had to resolve how to deal with lost keys or those that were stolen.
As security door lock technology advanced, the electronic door locks were invented. To open an electronic door lock, you could use a plastic card that had a magnetic strip at the bank; or you could simply rely on bar code readers to open the electronic door lock. This boosted up security door lock functions even more – but if the magnetic-card owner lost his card, or if it was stolen, that killed the security function of this type of lock. You might also lose your data from the magnetic strip in different ways.
Some authorities categorize electronic door locks as keyless door locks.
You can further improve the security of door locks by using different types of keyless door locks. One type has a number pad on which you should type in numbers in a pre-set sequence so that the security door locks will open. You may find that keyless door locks are connected to a home security monitoring system as well.
The problem with keyless door locks though is that you have to always remember what the correct pre-set sequence of numbers is to gain entry. This means some people have to write down the sequence of numbers, as opposed to never using the security door locks.
If you have a critical security area, you might integrate other systems into your keyless door locks such as one that scans the area behind your eye, or your fingerprints, which no one else can copy. Though these types of keyless door lock systems are hard to fool or bypass, they can also be quite costly so you won’t find the average homeowner installing them. But if you need to prevent intruders from gaining access at all costs, the keyless door lock may be of critical importance.
